Is the new PSP handheld a good idea?

Portable requirements
With all the bad gaming news at the moment, I’ll admit that I’m excited about the rumors of a possible new PSP.

What would I want from it?

Well, I like the design of PlayStation Portal, so something like that would work for me.

In terms of power, it would be impressive if it could run games for the PlayStation 4. I’d also like it to have slots to play all the existing PSP and PS Vita games. Maybe also the ability to connect it to the PlayStation 5 so it can be used on the big screen.

So if the rumors are true and he can do all of this, then consider me a one day buy if it’s reasonably priced.

Hopefully, Sony will officially reveal details about this at its next PlayStation Showcase.

Not exactly a new order
Hooray! Wolfenstein: The New Order – 10! Yes, it’s been 10 years since MachineGames dropped that atomic bomb and wowed everyone by successfully modernizing the Wolfenstein franchise for a new generation. It was a story-based first-person shooter with intense and addictive gameplay and a story that allowed it to hold its head high compared to other big story-based first-person shooters like Half-Life 2. Yeah, I said it. Thanks, MachineGames. Like the voice when you finished the original Doom that said, “You did it.”

One more thing I have to ask… was this game better than the sequel? In retrospect, that’s easy to say now.

GC: It has fewer flaws than the sequel, but we’re not sure we’d necessarily say it was better. We hope that one day they can finish the trilogy, but it seems unlikely.

Mass market advertising
The hyped sales of the Switch’s hardware can partly be attributed to the extensive marketing campaign it’s had: as long as Nintendo doesn’t neglect that aspect for the next console (like they did for the Wii U), I think it’ll do just fine.

Best-selling consoles tend to cross over into popular culture and become must-have gadgets – there are plenty of people who have a Switch because it was a necessity and use it for Fortnite and maybe Mario Kart/Smash Bros.

This part of the market isn’t likely to be touched by a great new Zelda or Metroid game, or the PlayStation 4’s level of power in a portable device, but if they see Ant and Dec playing Fortnite on Switch 2 (with an exclusive ‘I’m a celebrity skin) then they , will undoubtedly fly off the shelves…

Deja vu game
I agree that the leaked Valve game looks extremely ordinary, but I’m worried that there will be many games for the foreseeable future. That’s what online shooters look like when they’re real-time games: without an identifiable personality, so they don’t scare anyone away with things like originality or new ideas.

Mark my words, we’ll see a dozen Ubisoft games looking like this in the future, as well as any other publishers who want to keep up with the current trends. Maybe Sony can make them look a little different if they make them spin-offs from their bigger franchises, but what little we’ve seen of their attempts so far doesn’t look any better.

And let’s face it, Helldivers 2 owes its entire concept to the movie, trying to get close to Star Wars and Warhammer style armor without copying it. I fear the future will look the same.

Shadows die twice
Maybe I’ll regret it. Maybe the Chained Ogre will grind me into toothpaste, and Gyobu Oniwa will collect the scraps. But as they say, it’s always worth the hack. Maybe I’ll fail horribly and give up before I can break down in battle. Maybe I’ll be too afraid of the Guardian Monkey and Lady Butterfly.

Or maybe the cursed Dragon Rot will break my mind and I’ll cry. But if I try and persevere, I will become a better player. It’s worth a try!

Local solution
For a few months now, I’ve noticed that my Xbox controller won’t turn on the Xbox Series X when I hold down the Xbox button on the controller. I ended up having to stand up and hold the power button on the console which turns it on but goes back to a black screen with the xbox logo and takes a few minutes to start.

There are times when it won’t turn on and I have to unplug it and plug it back in. This prevents me from doing remote play successfully and I definitely put it to sleep to make remote play possible.

I’ve been down the Google rabbit hole and done a soft reset and even a hard reset on my Xbox Series X. I’ve also held down the power button for 10 seconds, unplugged everything, including external drives, and plugged everything back in again. It does help for a few days, but if I don’t turn on my Xbox for about four or five days, I’m back to it with a black loading screen. After exhausting my options on the internet I don’t know what to do as according to someone on the internet I may have a faulty power supply.

Most likely this means doing a repair job, but aside from the fact that it could cost a hundred or two and Microsoft often sends me refurbished devices that I definitely don’t want, especially at this price, I’m not sure what the option is. choose next. Especially since I can’t get in touch with anyone at Microsoft. If I knew of somewhere reliable and preferably local (I live in Derby) I would consider a 3rd party repair. What would readers recommend for my next step?

A powerful ally
In response to Ally K, I recently purchased a ROG Ally Z1 Extreme from Currys and have never regretted it. It can be a little difficult to set up at first, but there are tons of YouTube videos to help. The car is a beast and great to play. With the right settings, you can push games to 60+ fps, which feels like a true next-gen handheld compared to the Switch.

The battery is an issue and you’ll get about an hour max with AAA games like Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s not a problem for me because I play in bed next to a plug and a powerbank can solve the problem.

ROG Ally complements my Xbox with Game Pass cloud and remote play. I imagine remote play would work with the PlayStation 5 just as easily. I looked at the Steam Deck but chose Ally because it can do all that and more. I also got the JSAUX dock for £40 and it works great in desktop mode for games like Dota 2 and Counter-Strike.

Hope this helps you decide.

Video evidence
I’m a YouTuber who covers both Steam Deck OLED and ROG Ally – in response to Ali K in Friday’s inbox, here’s what I’d advise:

If you want the best battery life and hate online gaming, want an incredible OLED screen that’s more console-like (like sleep/resume), want an SD card slot, tons of customization options, and no I don’t mind play newer games at lower resolution/framerate (although pre-2018 AAA games work fine) and then buy a Steam Deck OLED.

If you don’t mind online play or 90 minutes of battery life on AAA games, want a nice crisp 1080p screen, don’t mind putting up with Windows (sleep/recovery isn’t a great experience), don’t mind your SD card slot, probably , doesn’t work, want the best comparison for gaming, want the best Game Pass experience (games can be downloaded internally on Ally), and want to play AAA games at a much higher resolution and the same frame rate, then get the ROG ally.

Last but not least, Asus just announced the ROG Ally X double battery life, an SD card fix, and lots of small improvements, 14 of which I’ve covered here.

So, Ali maybe should hold it off until release, maybe in September-October.

Hope this helps!

I would love to see a Star Wars game made by the Total War team. Although I hope it’s something that’s already in the works, otherwise it’ll be five years or so before we ever get to play it.

Good news: Horizon Chase 2 is finally coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on May 30. I’ve been looking forward to this for a while. When they said Spring 2024, I didn’t think they would wait until the penultimate day!
