A woman took to Reddit to ask if she was wrong to refuse to give up a seat she paid extra for when a taller passenger demanded she change to give him more legroom
When booking a plane ticket, it’s usually smart to customize your seat according to your travel requirements, which is what one traveler decided to do.
The woman on the 12-hour flight shared on Reddit how she booked her seats on the plane “months in advance” and said: “I paid extra to select my seats when I booked. The seat I chose was an extra $55 and was right at the front of the plane (trying to get somewhere on time after landing). The seat also turned out to be a place with extra legroom and I’m a 4’11” woman.
She explained how everything was fine at first and said she checked in, sat down and found her seat as usual, but revealed that when the “seat belt sign was off” a man approached and asked her to “move”.

The woman added that she was “open to it” until she realized his seat “was way in the back of the plane.” So she was “not sorry” and explained that she had paid to “sit in the front”.
She then explained that the man became irritated and said: “He became increasingly angry and wouldn’t leave, saying there was no reason for someone my height to need extra legroom (I told him I paid to be in the front) .

“I suggested he ask other people if they could switch places, but he refused, saying he didn’t want to disturb other men or break up couples.” The female traveler added that the man became “rude and angry” so she felt compelled to call “because of the flight attendant telling him to sit down”.
Unfortunately, she said: “For the rest of the flight, he kept walking past me for no reason, bumping into me (I was sitting in the aisle).” She ended the post by asking other Reddit users if she was wrong and if she should have swapped with him.
Reddit users were quick to comment on her post, with many assuring her that she wasn’t wrong and had every right to stay in the place she paid for. One said: “So my brother’s 6’6”. You know what he does when he needs to fly? He makes sure he has an emergency exit row or another row that has extra legroom.
“Usually he has to pay for it. Any tall person with a modicum of common sense KNOWS they have to do this for flying. This tall person knows they need more legroom but decided to try and get out of paying for it by getting The person who moved had every right to say no ESPECIALLY THEY PAID and a tall person has no right to be a jerk” .
The other agreed and added: “There is a tall man here. If I want more legroom, I can pay for it like everyone else. I don’t pay for the cheapest seat and then try to get someone down the line to give me a more expensive seat that they bought for free.”
And a third commented: “He’s tall, he’s been tall all his life. He knew that flying was a challenge for him and he didn’t want to spend extra money and became an abusive bully to one woman when he didn’t get his way. You should have reported him and he should have been removed from the flight or you should have been compensated for your seat. The grown man felt entitled to you giving him what he wanted. You were an easy target because you were alone and he didn’t get his way and chased you the entire flight.”
